Linen & Needle: Janet Weeks

Many moons ago I studied at the London College of Fashion, where I received a City and Guilds for Women's Light Clothing Manufacturing and Clothing Manufacture. I also have a Diploma in Fashion and Clothing Technology. This background has given me the knowledge to research, create custom designs and patterns, construct and finish all my garments and accessories to the high standard I expect of myself.

Back in 2011 I joined the Medieval Combat Society, and soon after I started to advise the members on their costumes. Not long after this, I was voted in with the official title of Clothing Adviser, where I still remain.

I personally love studying medieval clothing and garment construction, it's truly fascinating to piece together different resources to understand what and how they were wearing. It is thrilling to be able to take that knowledge and apply it to constructing pieces for others.

Forgotten Beads: Laura Smith

Janet had been running Linen & Needle for some time when she approached me about creating some bracelets and circlets for her. I had done some jewellery making as a hobby but had not sold to the public before. I soon became hooked and created Forgotten Beads in 2018.

My background is very different to Janet's in that I am not a reenactor. This means my knowledge comes directly from my customers and online research.

My creations are mainly upcycled pieces in historical styles. This way of working allows me to create truly one of a kind items.

When not working on Forgotten Beads I spend time assisting Janet with the technical side of running her business, including creating hand drawn bespoke digital embroidery.
